Grade 9 H&R has been rather uneventful so far, as we have only been working on our websites, ugrading them, so that's what I'm doing here. Upgrading and letting everybody see what's happening. So in this case, not much. There are a few new things though, I am in grade 9, ms. nightingale left, mrs. payeur left, and mrs. Karran and mr. Weber have come. Mr. Weber is replacing ms. nightingale, and mrs. Karran is replacing mrs. Payeur.
4/13/2016 0 Comments Guess who visited? The archbishopSo the archbishop is this guy who is the leader of all the churches around most of Alberta, so he is kind of a big deal. He told us a few things about what he does and who he is. He also told us that arch means old in latin, so archbishop means oldbishop. The church has a few different levels, the priest, bishop, and then the archbishop. So he has a few things, like a bowl, a ring, and a staff that's like a super elaborate shepherds staff. I found it sort of interesting, and we're also working on an activity where we make a crest that represents ourselves, or a coat of arms. So i'm working really hard on mine to make it look nice so that it's not sloppy or ugly. But to sum the visit up, an archbishop came and told us who he was and what he did and asked us a few questions and told us how he became the archbishop.
So, reconciliation, I need to talk about it. This is what I have to say. I'm not catholic, so I didn't confess any sins, because as a Christian, I talk to God directly through prayer. So I don't do Reconciliation, except for at school once a year, as is required, and have no problems with it. I don't mind that our school does it. I respect my school's religion, even if I don't share in that religion necessarily. But about the actual experience of Reconciliation, the father was nice, I enjoyed talking with him, and I am grateful for him sacrificing his day to come out to our school and give up his time to talk to an unruly mob like us. I'm not sure about everybody else, but I was fine with it, and have indifferent feelings towards it, though if I needed to say it,(which I do) I sort of enjoyed it, I mean, it was nice to talk to someone I didn't know at all and just talk. That pretty much sums up my reconciliation experience. I understand that reconciliation is a time to confess our sins to Father, or Jesus, whichever religion you follow, Catholicism, or Christianity. But both have Reconciliation, just it's done in different ways.
Dear Daniel,
I have got some information for you, you know, about the school year ahead of you, just so it goes as good as it possibly can, and so that your parents and teachers stay happy with you. So, listen carefully, because I will now give you six pieces of information that will help you throughout the entire school year. 1. Listen to the teachers: Do this, and it will affect everything positively, happy teachers lead to happy parents, and that leads to other good things, like privileges, or being able to get together with friends. Also, if you keep teachers happy, then you will keep yourself happy. If you are not listening to the teachers and being rude or uncaring, than that will lead to unhappy teachers, which lead to unhappy parent teacher interviews, and that leads to unhappy parents, and it all reflects back to you. That is bad, you do not want that. So just do what your told in class, and everything will be fine. 2. Get your homework in on time: This is a big one. If you don't get your homework in on time, that leads to homework room, and that's boring. Plus, if you don't get your homework in on time, it will set off a chain reaction, in a bad way, just like when you don't listen to the teacher. If you do get your homework in on time, that leads to happy teachers, which lead to happy parents, which lead to happy things. Plus, if you get your homework in on time, you get to do what you want when you can. But don't do your homework last minute, or it will be bad, and that will lead to unhappy everything. 3. Hang out with your friends, not people you don't know: Why? You might ask. I'll tell you why, because if you do, than you can get to know more people in the older grades as they get accustomed to having a bunch of new kids on the junior/senior high end. Why would it be bad to hang out with them? Because sometimes they might not have the best influence on you. Also, you have your own things to do, like doing homework, instead of trying to seem cool with all the older grades. Don't try to get to know them, because eventually they'll try to get to know you. 4. Do extra if you can: Why, because then you get a better grade. IF, if you don't ramble on and on about the same thing, and if you don't repeat yourself. But, if you can make it better than it is, and you have the time and imagination to make it more interesting, than you will get a better mark. 5. STUDY: I cannot beat this into your head hard enough. Studying will save you many headaches and worries about quizzes and tests. Even if you didn't have to study in elementary to get good marks, you still need to study in junior high, because it is a huge change. You don't get retries on tests and quizzes often, and even if you do, it's still hard to get good grades on. I'll make it short and sweet, if you study, you pass, if you don't, well, then look at it this way, you'll know everything in that grade when you get to do it again. 6. Ask for help: ON ANYTHING, you can ask for help on anything, either from a teacher, fellow student, family, friends, or friends in older grades that have already done what you are working on. Because, I can assure you, they went through the same struggles, so don't be afraid of being judged stupid. Because you aren't , your just going through the learning process like everyone else before you did. So ask for help, that's a big one, it'll also help you a lot. Don't be afraid to ask for help. That's about it, follow those instructions, be on time for classes, and your life will be easier throughout every grade. Yours truly,(seriously though) Daniel Hagen 10/22/2015 0 Comments Net ( national evangelisation team)So I came to school one day, and thought it would be completely normal, do my classes, get my homework, and then go home. Boy, was I wrong, the NET team had come to town. Now you may be wondering what NET is. Well, to find out, read the title. Anyways, I went to the gym prepared for a day where we had to sit there and listen to somebody ramble on and on while repeating themselves all the time. I was completely wrong, the NET team was awesome, they introduced themselves with a game and made their point in stories or skits, and it was a lot of fun. I thought it was going to be like a huge mass ceremony or something but it wasn't. They didn't repeat themselves and had a lot of games and songs mixed in throughout the whole thing. It turned out that I enjoyed it a lot. I think the others enjoyed it too.
They also presented their stuff in a way that you didn't doze off or die of boredom, but rather made it interesting by interacting with the audience. Everybody enjoyed it and the time flew by so fast that before I knew it, the day was over. But I enjoyed it a lot, despite what others might think. 10/2/2015 0 Comments Journal questions for hel/rel 8.

AdventThe wreath of advent symbolizes how God lives forever, has no beginning or end. The four candles symbolize hope, joy, love and peace.
The first week is Hope, meaning we believe that Jesus will come back one day, and we believe in that. The second week is Joy, meaning we feel joy at the coming of Jesus, as those at the first christmas felt when they knew Jesus was about to arrive. The third week of advent is Love, and this means we show love and compassion to others during this time of preparing our hearts for God. The fourth and last week is Peace, in which we show peace at having our hearts ready for God during the christmas season. We show peace in knowing that God is in control and everything will be alright. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S02KOlw7dlA This video describes what Advent is all about and what each week represents and how it all ties in. Active listeningActive listening, this is what most teachers try to get their students to do. What is it, you ask? Well, active listening is listening to what somebody is saying, but being involved and listening. And responding. You have a conversation and telling people your ideas so that the teacher or whoever you’re talking to actually knows your listening. That is the definition of active listening. So the teacher is talking and asks what your views are, you answer. That is active listening. Somebody tells you about something that happened in there life and you think of a similar time in your life, that’s active listening.
An example would be two friends, talking like normal, and when one friend stops talking the other replies, making eye contact and not just talking about themselves, it’s about the other person too. An example of somebody who isn’t actively listening would go something like this. A friend is telling their friend about their day and when the first friend stops the other friend says something like, “whatever” or “anyways” or “ so what did you say?” Therefore implying that they weren’t listening and whatever they wanted to say was more important and they were just doing whatever whilst the other friend talked. Conversations can go either way, they can build somebody up just as easily as they can break you down. It all depends on whether you or the person you’re talking to is paying attention or not. Active listening techniques include: Five positive questions that will open up a conversation that talks about the well-being of somebody. 1: How are you doing lately? 2: You enjoying school? 3: How is your family doing? 4: How was your week/day? 5: You doing alright? rule of 5The rule of 5 is assessing if the situation that you are in is going to be relevant to you in the future. 5 minutes from then, 5 days from then, 5 weeks from then, 5 months, or even years. The bottom line is, will it be important to you in the future.
MindfulnessMindfulness is being aware. Being aware of yourself, others, things, your surroundings and what's happening, feeling what's happening, being in the present. Focusing on what's around you.
act of contemplationContemplating is when you stop to think, assess your situation and what you should do in that particular situation, if you should walk away, tell somebody, or come back and deal with it when your calm.
