Grade 9 H&R has been rather uneventful so far, as we have only been working on our websites, ugrading them, so that's what I'm doing here. Upgrading and letting everybody see what's happening. So in this case, not much. There are a few new things though, I am in grade 9, ms. nightingale left, mrs. payeur left, and mrs. Karran and mr. Weber have come. Mr. Weber is replacing ms. nightingale, and mrs. Karran is replacing mrs. Payeur.

AdventThe wreath of advent symbolizes how God lives forever, has no beginning or end. The four candles symbolize hope, joy, love and peace.
The first week is Hope, meaning we believe that Jesus will come back one day, and we believe in that. The second week is Joy, meaning we feel joy at the coming of Jesus, as those at the first christmas felt when they knew Jesus was about to arrive. The third week of advent is Love, and this means we show love and compassion to others during this time of preparing our hearts for God. The fourth and last week is Peace, in which we show peace at having our hearts ready for God during the christmas season. We show peace in knowing that God is in control and everything will be alright. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S02KOlw7dlA This video describes what Advent is all about and what each week represents and how it all ties in. Active listeningActive listening, this is what most teachers try to get their students to do. What is it, you ask? Well, active listening is listening to what somebody is saying, but being involved and listening. And responding. You have a conversation and telling people your ideas so that the teacher or whoever you’re talking to actually knows your listening. That is the definition of active listening. So the teacher is talking and asks what your views are, you answer. That is active listening. Somebody tells you about something that happened in there life and you think of a similar time in your life, that’s active listening.
An example would be two friends, talking like normal, and when one friend stops talking the other replies, making eye contact and not just talking about themselves, it’s about the other person too. An example of somebody who isn’t actively listening would go something like this. A friend is telling their friend about their day and when the first friend stops the other friend says something like, “whatever” or “anyways” or “ so what did you say?” Therefore implying that they weren’t listening and whatever they wanted to say was more important and they were just doing whatever whilst the other friend talked. Conversations can go either way, they can build somebody up just as easily as they can break you down. It all depends on whether you or the person you’re talking to is paying attention or not. Active listening techniques include: Five positive questions that will open up a conversation that talks about the well-being of somebody. 1: How are you doing lately? 2: You enjoying school? 3: How is your family doing? 4: How was your week/day? 5: You doing alright? rule of 5The rule of 5 is assessing if the situation that you are in is going to be relevant to you in the future. 5 minutes from then, 5 days from then, 5 weeks from then, 5 months, or even years. The bottom line is, will it be important to you in the future.
MindfulnessMindfulness is being aware. Being aware of yourself, others, things, your surroundings and what's happening, feeling what's happening, being in the present. Focusing on what's around you.
act of contemplationContemplating is when you stop to think, assess your situation and what you should do in that particular situation, if you should walk away, tell somebody, or come back and deal with it when your calm.
